United Airlines Flight Attendants Picket at Newark Airport After Voting to Authorize Strike.

Union members demand better working conditions and fair contracts as they edge closer to potential strike action. United Airlines flight attendants announced the results of a strike vote at Denver International Airport on Wednesday morning. The workers cited unmet needs—such as job security, pay, and retirement—as reasons for a potential strike. "This is the first strike vote in 40 years," said Chris Burton, president of the local council union for the flight attendants. Represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, 99.99% of the voting flight attendants approved the strike, with over 90% of eligible members participating. The union represents 28,000 United Airlines flight attendants. Leeds Rebound with Key Win in Yorkshire Derby as Farke’s Squad Shows Signs of Life.

Despite a Challenging Start and Player Departures, Daniel Farke's Team Delivers a Crucial Victory Against Sheffield Wednesday, Boosting Their Championship Campaign.

"Daniel James celebrates his decisive goal with Leeds United teammates, clinching a crucial victory in the Yorkshire derby and lifting spirits after a challenging start to the Championship season."

Daniel Farke and his Leeds players’ ecstatic reaction when Daniel James’s decisive goal effectively clinched this thrilling Yorkshire derby spoke volumes. It’s important to remember that nothing is truly settled or decided in mid-August.

However, the standards at this football club are high, and starting the new Championship season with back-to-back draws has cast a shadow over last season’s playoff finalists. This situation has been exacerbated by the fact that Farke’s squad has been significantly weakened since their defeat to Southampton.

Key players like Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray, Glen Kamara, and Georginio Rutter have all departed, bringing in over £100 million in sales. Yet, there has been very little incoming transfer activity. Nevertheless, the remaining players produced their best performance of the season so far on Friday, securing a much-needed win against Sheffield Wednesday and providing a boost of positivity for Leeds.

Goals from Brenden Aaronson and James earned Leeds five points from nine so far, condemning Sheffield Wednesday to their second defeat in three games. Despite this win, Farke remains adamant that the result and performance should not convince the Leeds hierarchy that their squad is sufficient.

“It’s not ideal because we’re looking at a 46-game season plus another cup competition,” he said. “You can’t expect only one or two players to be unavailable throughout the season – we definitely need to bring in a few more players.”

As Farke pointed out, more additions are necessary if Leeds are to endure the long Championship season and remain competitive. Ironically, it was Wilfried Gnonto, who sought a transfer away last summer, who was instrumental in this match at Hillsborough.

Gnonto’s time at Leeds seemed to be ending when he pushed for a move to Everton last summer, but he was central to everything Farke’s team did well, including the excellent buildup play leading to Aaronson’s goal. “That’s exactly how I want him to play because at times today he was unplayable,” Farke commented.

The visitors were on the defensive in the opening stages, with Sheffield Wednesday supported by an enthusiastic home crowd. However, as the first half progressed and Wednesday failed to create opportunities, Leeds not only settled into the game but also quieted the home fans.

They were firmly silenced after 25 minutes when Aaronson finished off a brilliant counterattack. Aaronson, who had returned from a season-long loan at Union Berlin to a lukewarm reception, has started to win back favor with two goals in three games.

Daniel James’s neat finish in the second half secured the three points for Leeds. Sheffield Wednesday will view this as a frustrating evening; an early goal might have changed the outcome, but after Aaronson’s opener, they struggled to regain any momentum, and Leeds dominated. This defeat follows a significant win over Plymouth in the opening weekend.

“We saw a strong Leeds side,” said Wednesday manager Danny Röhl. “Sometimes you have to endure and stay united as a team. That’s the takeaway from this game. The second goal was too easy.”

The key moment Röhl referred to came shortly after the restart, when Mateo Joseph’s precise through ball freed James, who calmly lifted the ball over James Beadle to double Leeds’s lead and put Sheffield Wednesday on the back foot.

Instead of any threat of a Wednesday comeback, Leeds continued to push for a third goal. Joseph should have done better following a mazy run from Jayden Bogle, and Gnonto also came close to making it 3-0.

Aside from a speculative effort from Wednesday captain Barry Bannan, which went just wide of Illan Meslier’s post, Sheffield Wednesday failed to pose a serious threat. Their momentum from the win over Plymouth seems to be fading, but they will still hope for a successful season under the promising Röhl.

Ultimately, this night belonged to Leeds. After a summer of discontent at Elland Road, Farke will hope this was the evening that sparked their season into life following a shaky start on and off the field.
